With Season 8 of Suits on break, USA Network has announced the cast joining Gina Torres, who plays powerhouse Jessica Pearson, in Suits: Second City. Suits fans will definitely want to check out how Jessica (Torres) moves from legal and into the make or break world of Chicago politics.
As we previously mentioned, the spinoff will follow Jessica Pearson (Torres) as she adjusts to her new life in the Windy City. Jessica finds herself being forced to enter the dirty world of Chicago politics. Pearson must then rely on her legal wits and valiant relationships from Pearson Specter Litt to navigate this unknown territory.
Here are 5 reasons why we’re excited for the cast of Suits: Second City:
5) The Backdoor Pilot!
During the seventh season finale, Mike (Adams) and Rachel (Meghan Markle) had their long overdue wedding before leaving the firm. Robert Zane (Wendell Pierce) saved the day and became the firm’s new partner, alongside Specter and Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman). Elsewhere, Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres) has set foot in Chicago to reunite with her long-lost family, while taking on a crooked politician and a shady real estate developer.
4) The Series Regulars!
The series regulars are Bethany Joy Lenz (One Tree Hill), Chantel Riley (Wynonna Earp), Isabel Arraiza (The Oath) and Eli Goree (Ballers). These cast members join Torres and fellow series regulars, Simon Kassianides and Morgan Spector.
4) Recast!
My favorite part of the backdoor pilot was watching Jessica go at it against prosecutor Keri Allen (Rebecca Rittenhouse). Keri Allen is the unofficial right hand to the mayor. According to Deadline, the role played by Rittenhouse in the backdoor pilot is being recast with Bethany Joy Lenz.
3) Angela Cook!
Chantel Riley guest-starred as Angela Cook in the backdoor pilot. Angela Cook is a certified Nursing Assistant and Jessica’s cousin. Angela is suspicious of her cousin’s sudden return to the family. She is preoccupied with taking care of her two sons, protecting her mother and staying connected to her community.
2) Yoli!
Isabel Arraiza will play Yoli Castillo, Jessica’s passionate assistant . Yogi will learn from the best about how to most effectively channel her intensity.
1) Derrick!
Eli Goree will be seen as Derrick Mayes. Mayor Bobby Golec’s young press secretary and a former journalist, Derrick got into politics to make a difference, but struggles with the reality of what it takes to do so
Season 8 of Suits will continue on USA Network in 2019.
