An ambitious vision, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder in Hell #2 (IDW Publishing) cleverly blends nightmarish thrills and deep character exploration. Supernatural forces are trying to keep the Turtles’ worst enemy locked in but is Hell strong enough to keep him contained?

Oroku Saki’s death is just the beginning, and his journey through the depths of the underworld proves to be anything but a divine comedy. How much of Shredder’s soul will remain after he’s faced the horrors of hell?

Here are 5 reasons  why you should get Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder in Hell #2:

5) What Happened Before!

On Christmas Eve, Splinter had a vision of himself, wearing the Shredder’s armor; with his sons standing over his dead body. Meanwhile, Oroku Saki’s trip to Hell is just the beginning. His journey through the depths of the underworld proves to be anything but a divine comedy.

4) The Writing!

Writer Mateus Santolouco presents Shredder as a tragic figure, who’s able to move past his stubbornness. Interestingly, Santolouco examines the Turtles from Shredder’s perspective. I loved the idea that the Turtles are seen more as tricksters than demons. Letterer Shawn Lee captures the evil Turtles running around with glee.

3) The Art!

Also on art duties, Santolouco illustrates a living and breathing Hellscape. Santoluco amps up the action with an action-packed a zombie attack. In his closeups, Shredder’s determination is fueled by his anger.

2) The Colors!

Santolouco and colorist Marcelo Costa has added a sickly and faded green tone on the Turtles. Notice how their skin has dots all over, as if they’re diseased as well. They’re glows red when the group of brothers banter, as if finishing off each other’s sentences.

1) A Scary Read!

Mixing horror and action,Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder in Hell #2 does a fantastic job of creating evil Turtles and zombies. I’m looking forward to the next issue!
