Angel #5, Boom

A standalone installment, Angel #5 (BOOM! Studios) delivers an exciting origin story to the vampire hunter known as Charles Gunn. A clever spinoff of Buffy The Vampire Slayer starring David Boreanaz, Joss Whedon’s vampire without a soul examines the sins of his past in this prequel to the Hellmouth crossover event.

After teetering between Sunnydale and Los Angeles, Angel now knows exactly what his mission is-to make sure the Hellmouth stays sealed! He’ll stop anyone who gets in his way, be it friend or foe, vampire…or Slayer.

Here are 5 reasons why you should read Angel #5:

5) What Happened Before!

After discovering a much greater evil is on the horizon, Angel realizes he will need every resource and ally he can find. Though part of her mind has been left in shambles, Fred still understands what her nightmarish vision foreshadows. To save the world, Angel will need to find the vampire hunter Charles Gunn.

4) The Writing!

Writer Bryan Edward Hill expands on Gunn’s past and gives more depth to the protagonist. In the opening pages, Gunn offers a livestream feed to his social media followers to watch him stake a vampire. The lettering by Ed Dukeshire examines a thrill junkie who uses adrenaline to escape from the past.

3) The Artwork!

Artist Gleb Melnikov uses the basis of J. August Richards for his character design and adds new details. Gunn is now wearing tactical gear when he searches for bloodsuckers. He uses stakes made out of metal, instead of wood, during his executions.

2) The Colors!

Colorist Roman Titov captures an urban setting in moody gray tones. Gunn’s childhood past is drenched in red. When the vampires are struck dead, notice how they turn into green smoke.

1) A Fun Read!

Readers will definitely love this new dynamic take on Gunn in Angel #5. I am so hyped up for the Hellmouth crossover event after reading the last pages.

Angel #5 arrives in stores on September 25th, 2019.
