A classic series from Top Cow, Cyber Force #1 (Image Comics) is a visually bold re-imagination of the popular Marc Silvestri comic. A perfect jumping-on point for new readers, past characters are given a refreshingly new and relevant update.
In a modern world where humanity is defined by the technology it creates, a terrorist strikes at the heart of human progress. One of the few survivors of the attack is a man named Morgan Stryker. Mortally wounded, Stryker’s life is saved by his employers…but the price could be his humanity itself.
Here are 5 reasons why you should get Cyber Force #1:
5) A Sci-Fi Reboot!
CYBER FORCE #1 by @Marc_Silvestri, @topcowmatt, @bryanedwardhill, and Atilio Rojo hit comic shops this Wednesday. Here’s a sneak peek: https://t.co/ZOJpaic5TP pic.twitter.com/svNZCaknJh

Interestingly, writers Matt Hawkins and Bryan Hill reboot the narrative through the perspective of a supporting character. Having read the original, it took awhile for me to accept the changes in Stryker’s personality, but they certainly make sense. Stryker was more of a womanizer back in its heyday and now he’s struggling with fatherhood; which makes him a far more interesting protagonist.
4) Question Everything!
Hawkins and Hill question the themes of technology and how humanity evolves with the advancements. Are we using technology itself to benefit us? Or has our dependence on technology taken over?
3) The Artwork!
Artist Atilio Rojo delivers a frightening vision of a politically charged future. The opening pages depicts a frightening terrorist attack that feels ripped from the headlines. Roio stays faithful to Stryker’s previous character design, adding a few wrinkles to his world-weariness.
2) The Colors!
When Carin is introduced, notice how her hair and eye color pop out in the white background. The red and green tones add to Carin’s youthful appearance and rebellious spirit. An entire page is draped in a vivid blue tone.
1) A Gripping Read!
So this week Cyber Force #1 hits by me, @Marc_Silvestri @bryanedwardhill Edward Hill Atilio Rojo. It’s a new start but technically not a reboot. There’s a preview and a lot of art here if you want to check it out: https://t.co/rq8jI83UFk pic.twitter.com/KeoUOOYpq8

Overall, Cyber Force #1 reimagines its supporting players and futuristic setting into a gripping family drama. I hope to see more of my favorite characters, such as Ripclaw, in upcoming issues.
