Hellmouth #1, BOOM! Studios

An exciting crossover event, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, the vampire without a soul, meet for the first time in the action-packed Hellmouth #1 (BOOM! Studios). From the mind of Joss Whedon, the Hellmouth has been opened and bloodthirsty monsters have been unleashed.

From beneath you, it devours…Buffy and the Scoobies will have to learn to trust each other again as they race to close the Hellmouth before whatever evil living there can be unleashed on, first, Sunnydale, and then, the world. Meanwhile, Angel, the vampire cursed with a soul, arrives in town to seek his redemption by doing whatever it takes to destroy the path to Hell…and no human, demon, or Slayer will stand in his way.

Here are 5 reasons why you should read Hellmouth #1:

5) What Happened Before!

Hellmouth #1

After recruiting Charles Gunn, Angel had to leave to Los Angeles on an urgent matter. Buffy, along with her friends, are trying to be normal teens at the school dance. Until the ground opens up and the gates of Hell have been unlocked, no one at Sunnydale is safe from what is coming out.

4) The Writing!

Writers Jordie Bellaire and Jeremy Lambert do a fantastic job of raising the stakes and exploring the consequences of death. Giles is afraid he left the slayer alone against the Hellmouth. Having faced death before, Xander doesn’t want to lose Buffy. Letter Ed Dukeshire does a great job spotlighting Angel as a stoic hero, who has been through his own share of apocalyptic scenarios.

3) The Artwork!

Artist Elenora Carlini keeps the action flowing as Buffy throws her fist and punches out a small winged beat. The illustrations capture Buffy when she is most vulnerable as she is surrounded by dead bodies. In his closeups, Angel is quite impressed with how resourceful Buffy is, but he understands the Hellmouth is too much for one person to handle.

2) The Colors!

Colorist Cris Peter heightens the red and orange tone because the school is on fire. The flames serve as a source of lighting, since the electricity in the building has gone out. The demons are cast in their own green tone, so that they can stand out from the rest of the page.

1) For The Fans!

The action and the emotional stakes are the driving point in Hellmouth #1. Buffy and Angel fans are going to love these two sharing the spotlight again.

Hellmouth #1 arrives in stars on October 9th, 2019.
