Road Bones #4, IDW

A gut-wrenching installment, Road of Bones #4 (IDW Publishing) delivers the most unsettling conclusion in this gruesome and harrowing survival tale. Since the beginning, Road of Bones has explored its themes on human nature through history and Russian folklore.

There is no god but hunger. And the loss of their food has driven Roman, Grigori, and Sergei to the absolute extreme. Knives are sharpened and souls are searched as each man decides just how far he is willing to go in order to survive the brutal tundra. One thing is certain, though-one must die for the others to live.

Here are 5 reasons you should get Road of Bones #4:

5) What Happened Before!

Roman has been pushed to his limits after suffering at the brutal hands of his prison guards. Roman teamed up with Sergei and Grigori to escape from the Siberian Gulag of Kolyma. But escaping prison was half the battle, now they have to pass over the mountains and deal with the freezing cold weather. With Grigori gone, the hunger still remains.

4) The Writing!

Writer Rich Douek delivers cringe-inducing horror as the snowy weather becomes the ultimate enemy. Paranoia finally sinks in as the mind-numbing transformation into cannibalism is complete. The lettering by Justin Birch captures the brutal irony that the last hope for salvation comes from a soldiers way station.

3) The Artwork!

Artist Alex Cormack illustrates a never-ending blizzard blanketing the entire page. Cormack vaguely illustrates the faces of the last two survivors during the intense snowstorm. Cinematically paced, I love the how nine-panel page features a campfire tale gone horribly wrong.

2) The Colors!

Notice how the light source is reflected off the snow. Everything has to be pure white because that’s all that these characters can see. The last pages are lit in red because of the campfire glow.

1) A Riveting Thriller!

A captivating conclusion, Road of Bones #4 is downright impossible to put down. The last page will stamp itself into your mind!

Road of Bones #4 arrives in stores on August 14th, 2019.
