After delivering a shocking plot twist, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #96 (IDW Publishing) antes up on more surprising twists to keep the momentum going. As “City at War” continues with a shocking twist, the TMNT series continues the origin story of a new character to the popular franchise.
“City at War, Part 4.” As the war for New York reaches a fever pitch, Splinter makes his final gambit for complete victory. Meanwhile, the Turtles are on the run and may not be able to count on each other for survival!
Here are 5 reasons why you should get Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #96:
5) What Happened Before!
One of my favorite scenes to write in #TMNT #96. It's not often #Donatello is at a loss for words. How will #Jennika react to the news that she's a #TeenageMutantNinjaTurtle? Find out on July 31 when #CityAtWar continues! @IDWPublishing #NCBD #FifthTurtle @theWoodenKing @rleep pic.twitter.com/3RY9QDzM7q

Karai makes a surprising decision as Splinter questions his leadership within the Foot Clan. Breaking off alliances with everyone, Karai drove her blade straight into Jennika. Wanting payback for Slash’s death, Raphael breaks off with his brothers to join the Mutanimals to attack Null. In order to save Jennika, the Turtles offered their own blood to save her.
4) The Writing!
From a story by Kevin Eastman and Bobby Curnow, writer Tom Waltz deals with the consequences of Jennika’s life-saving mutation. Though Leonardo wanted to be her hero, he never thought of the consequences that would do her harm. Shawn Lee’s lettering bolds certain words that stresses Jennika’s mind-numbing shock after discovering what happened to her.
3) The Artwork!
Artis Michael Dialynas illustrates emotional impact through the facial expressions. The reactions really hit home when Casey Jones becomes part of the narrative. There is just heartache and sadness when Casey and the new Jennika look at each other.
2) The Colors!
Notice colorist Ronda Pattison does a great job keeping Jennika in a different green shade. It could mean Jennika is still in trouble from the stab wound and her body might might be weak. Or this lighter green shade hints at the new character design before Jennika puts on her yellow bandana.
1) A Gripping Read!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #96 delivers a shocking cliffhanger as the death count continues. The “City at War” takes a surprising turn as we’re closer to the 100th issue milestone.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #96 arrives in stores on July 31st, 2019.
