The sci-fi film, The Job, starring Dawna Lee Heising and LeJon, boasts a solid story with a strong message and stunning visuals. In its nearly 16-minute running time, Director Craig Railsback grounds the futuristic elements with thought-provoking themes.

THE PLOT: “Recovering from a trauma, Todd interviews for a job and finds redemption instead of employment.”

Here are five reasons why you should watch The Job:

5) Dawna Lee Heising!

Dawna Lee Heising has a great job showing off the feisty personality of the AI known as Athena. As the storyline continues, Athena snaps back at responses, shows off her playfulness in her banter, and becomes comforting when the moment counts. Heising showcases each mood point in a concise amount of screen time.

4) LeJon

Right from the start, LeJon portrays his character, Todd, with such gravitas. Todd is conflicted, confrontational, and stonewalled in his conversation with Athena (Heising). LeJon’s fine performance presents a tortured protagonist with a dark past.

3) The Look!

The Job has a sleek and polished look thanks to the impressive camerawork. This is more than just two people talking back and forth, thanks to Railsback’s creative camera angles. The lighting bounces the colors off the background in a rhythmic vibe.

2) The AI!

With AI being the talk of Hollywood in a negative aspect, I enjoyed how the sci-fi element is used as a voice for progression. First and foremost, I believe AI can be used as a tool, not a replacement. The Job explores AI mostly as a tool for therapeutic and psychological uses.

1) Thought-Provoking!

The Job does a great job at showcasing two exceptional performances. The short film presents its own social commentary that is worth exploring as a feature.
