Black Fawn Films and Uncork’d Entertainment present the slick erotic/supernatural thriller, The Dwelling, starring Alysa King and Gwenlyn Cumyn. A fresh and unique spin on the haunted house genre, co-writer/director Jeff Maher unleashes the gore in jaw-dropping body horror sequences.
Four people find themselves stuck on a haunted antique bed where leaving means suffering a gruesome death. Plagued with frightening hallucinations, they must figure out the bed’s secrets before they are ultimately picked off one by one.
Here are 5 reasons why you should get The Dwelling:
5) Alysa King!
A compelling performance, Alysa King constantly delivers the exhaustion, the anguish, and the resilience of her character, Sandy. What was supposed to be a simple sexual rendezvous spirals into a descent into utter madness. As Sandy, King captures the struggle of being isolated and tormented by her own personal demons.
4) Gwenlyn Cumyn!
With her captivating chemistry alongside Alysa King, Gwenlyn Cumyn delivers a spectacularly gripping performance as Nancy. Doused with blood, Nancy (Cumyn) is always in a constant level of tension as her personal demons torment her at an unrelenting pace. Cumyn delivers a top-notch performance; you really feel for her character when she becomes so emotionally wrecked.
3) The Horror! The Horror!
Kudos to the makeup/special effects team because the nightmarish body horror sequences are strikingly eye-popping. The camerawork by Micha Dahan never shies away from the unflinching gore effects. When the body count starts, each horror sequence manages to top one after the other.
2) The Direction!
Cody Calahan and Jeff Maher have put together two great tales, a gripping police procedural and a supernatural gore-fest, into one movie. Maher does a great job building the bloody kill scenes to a crescendo. The emotional performances are in sync with the practical effects; they’re never competing against each other.
