Returning for its highly anticipated Season 6, NBC airs the premiere of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, starring Andy Samberg and Melissa Fumero, in Episode 1: Honeymoon. After leaving viewers with a cliffhanger, we finally get to find out if Captain Holt (Andre Braugher) has been named the NYPD’s new commissioner.
When we last left off Captain Holt, he was about to read the email he just received. At first, Holt is excited to hold the job he’s always wanted. Unfortunately, Jake (Samberg) leaves the room when Holt rereads the message. The celebratory music starts playing when Holt realizes he didn’t get the job.
Meanwhile, Sergeant Terry Jeffords (Terry Crews) is running the Nine-Nine due to Holt’s absence. Jake and Amy (Fumero) are on their Honeymoon, bumping into Holt in Mexico. Their plans of a romantic getaway take a turn for the worst as Holt’s gloomy attitude puts a damper on everything.
Not only does Holt wonder there’s more to life than the NYPD, Charles (Joe Lo Truglio) discovers his parents are getting a divorce. Keeping the truth to herself, Gina (Chelsea Peretti) at first refuses to reveal what really happened to their folks. It turns out Gina discovered her mother was cheating on Charles’ father.
Just when Amy was getting kinky in her Holly Gennero outfit and wig, Jake discovers Holt is actually thinking of quitting. Tied up in velvet rope, Holt mocks Jake’s attempts to rejuvenate his mood; he’s only being “selfish.” After realizing they spent their entire honeymoon trying to make him feel good, Amy doesn’t give a “hoot” anymore.
Though Terry is in charge, he isn’t confident to make a decision. After reading the emergency instruction manual, Terry realizes that Holt has named him as his successor. With a big boost of confidence, Terry is able to advise Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz) about a problem in her ongoing meth case.
Later, Holt apologizes for his behavior and pays to extend Jake and Amy’s vacation. He promises to stay on captain but his attitude towards Commissioner Kelly has changed.
By the time Jake and Amy finally return to work, Holt declares, “The Nine-Nine is at war with the NYPD!”
Brooklyn Nine-Nine continues Thursdays on NBC at 9pm.
