A truly fun and delightful read, Goosebumps: Monsters at Midnight #1 genuinely loves throwing scares and laughs at its readers. At the core of the franchise, Goosebumps continues to put kids at the forefront in this fast-paced horror anthology.
Mia and Ginny are about to stay at their Grandma’s mothball-filled house for the summer. Just as expected, boredom forces them to venture out into her tiny town. What the two actually find in a dusty used bookstore launches them into an upside-down world of mayhem and terror.
Here are 5 reasons why you should pick up Goosebumps: Monsters at Midnight #1:

Just like Stranger Things captures that ‘80s vibe, Monsters at Midnight is everything you love about R.L. Stine’s legacy. A fun tribute to EC Comics, the first installment also puts its own spin on Stine’s numerous concepts and characters. The most popular character from the Goosebumps series makes his introduction here.
4) Sisters!
Writer Jeremy Lambert dives into the witty banter between Mia and Ginny. Lambert takes sibling rivalry to new heights as Mia and Ginny argue, demonstrating how complete opposites they are. In the theme of duality, one is hyper-active and the other is surly.
3) The Artwork!

Artist Chris Fenoglio fleshes out the characters with such visual characteristics. Wide-eyed Ginny is in awe of everything because she is a naive and innocent child. As a pre-teen, Mia wants to rebel but is stuck with a broken leg.
2) The Colors!
I love how the color palette gradually changes as the narrative slowly jumps into the supernatural. The warm colors are grounded in reality because Mia and Ginny see everything dry and plain. Once they step into Horrorland, that’s when the colors start popping because it’s away from the norm.
