With the most exciting anti-heroes ever, the creator of Sons of Anarchy, Kurt Sutter, fights injustice and revenge in Sisters of Sorrow #3 (BOOM! Studios). With a gritty narrative and phenomenal artwork, the third installment expands on its premise and steers the series in a whole new direction.
As we previously mentioned, Dominique, Greta, Misha, and Sarah run a nonprofit women’s shelter by day. At night though, they each don a nun’s habit and stealthily move through Los Angeles hunting down violent abusers. Their public vigilantism has earned them the nickname. Sisters of Sorrow, from the crime-ridden streets. These vigilante crime-fighters soon draw the ire of L.A.’s notorious anti-crime task force.
Here are 5 reasons why you should pick up Sisters of Sorrow #3:
5) Kurt Sutter’s Best Work Ever!

If you loved Sons of Anarchy, The Bastard Executioner, and Southpaw, then Sisters of Sorrow has just about everything you love about Sutter’s previous works. The third installment returns its focus on Misha, who was stablished as the moral conscience to the group. Now Dominique, Greta, and Sarah force Misha to choose between her morality and obtaining justice for her dead son.
4) Great Storytelling!
Sutter and co-writer Courtney Alameda (Pitch Dark) up the ante on their storytelling abilities through the comic book medium. I love how the two creatively play around with the nonlinear structure and examine scenes through different viewpoints. Readers will not be confused as the scenes are restaged with different meaning; it starts out one way and becomes completely something else.
3) The Suspense!

Artist Hyeonjin Kim wonderfully builds the suspense and tension within the tensely-paced panels. Through wide shots, Kim demonstrates how the dangers can come from anywhere. The actual danger and violence is then captured in tight closeups and crooked angles.
2) The Colors!
Colorist Jean-Paul Csuka grounds the interiors with warm tones, creating the realistic vibe behind the western landscape. Notice how there are hints of red just when the Sisters of Sorrow are about to commit their next kill.
1) A Fantastic Third Issue!

The plot thickens in Sisters of Sorrow #3, which focuses more on the relationships between the tight-knit squad of the anti-heroines. This crime thriller features the most interesting female characters you will ever read!
