USA Network continues the highly anticipated Suits spinoff series, Pearson, starring Gina Torres and Morgan Specter, with Episode 4: The Deputy Mayor. After leaving her New York firm behind, former lawyer Jessica Pearson (Torres) jumps into the Chicago world of politics.
While working on his case, Jeff (D.B. Woodside) argues with Jessica about some information he dug up on Mayor Bobby Golec (Specter). Bobby’s brother Nick D’Amato (Simon Kassianides) may be involved in a murder. With the photos Jeff has on Nick, the investigation is already heating up on the Mayor.
Real estate developer Pat McGann (Wayne Duvall) is starting to make enemies of his own. Part of his contract is going sour and the investors aren’t receiving payback. If the money doesn’t come back in less than 90 days, Pat’s investment deal goes sour.
Meanwhile, Keri Allen (Bethany Joy Lenz) is having problems of her own with the Deputy Mayor. The Deputy Mayor wants a street named after his pick, Frank Hampton. When Yoli Castillo (Isabel Arraiza) and Derrick (Eli Goree) start looking into the name, they discover some bad history.
Elsewhere, Jessica wants her cousin, Angela Cooke (Chantel Riley) and her kids, to move closer. They would also be moving to a better neighborhood. Unfortunately, Angela rejects the offer because she doesn’t want to associate herself with the bad people that Jessica is connected with.
As Jessica starts to investigate the bribe money, she makes another connection to Nick D’Amato. This time Jessica ends up getting involved with a notorious gang. The money Nick was giving away was meant for a drug dealer, the same person who was murdered in the photos.
Nick reveals this was all part of a deal gone sour. Confessing to Jessica, Nick was offering money to the murdered drug dealer, but as an escape from the criminal lifestyle. The drug dealer died because of the criminals he was doing business for.
After Keri shoots down his offer, the Deputy Mayor admits to liking her loyalty to the Mayor. Of course, there’s a problem with that. She can’t be loyal to the Mayor and to Pat McGann at the same time.
After catching up with Jeff, Jessica mentions what Nick told him. Jessica also tells Jeff that she is going to church with he family, She ends up watching Angela sing with the choir.
At a different church, Nick confesses to the priest about a murder he actually committed.
Pearson continues Wednesdays 10pm on USA Network.
