USA Network’s ‘The Sinner’ Recap: Episode 7

After six knockout episodes, USA Network continues with Episode 7 and answers questions to their gripping crime drama, The Sinner, starring Jessica Biel. In the limited miniseries event, audiences are introduced to a murder mystery that doesn’t ask the “who” or the “what” — but the “why.”

The entire episode is told in flashback, young Cora (Raegan.Millican) has now grown up to become an adult age. Adult Phoebe (Nadia Alexander) celebrates her nineteenth birthday with her family but is still getting sicker. Phoebe knows Cora has plans with J.D. (Jacob Pitts) on her birthday. 

Phoebe manages to convince Cora to take her outside. At the bar, Phoebe ends up taking drugs from Maddie (Danielle Burgess). While taking care of her drugged out sister, Phoebe feels the wrath of Maddie’s jealousy.

At the dance floor, Phoebe reminds Cora that she is a giant. Because she refuses to go back home, Phoebe joins Cora on the car ride with J.D. and Maddie. They have to stop the car and make a detour to the forest after Phoebe accidentally pees on herself.

After washing her clothes, Cora thinks about ditching her sister by the pond. J.D. and his friends are shooting rounds from their shotguns. Out of spite, Cora reveals to her sister that she’s moving in with J.D.

By the time they reach the mansion, Frankie Belmont (Eric Todd) is already waiting for them. It’s love at first sight between Frankie and Phoebe. While the two lovebirds are flirting away, J.D. invites Cora to meet Todd.

J.D. is actually pimping out Cora to Todd. Maddie bursts out crying, revealing she was pregnant with J.D.’s baby. She had the abortion after stepping in front of the truck. Maddie leaves the room as Todd puts his creepy hands on Cora.

Phoebe doesn’t want to head back home; she wants to stay with Frankie. Everyone starts heading down to the basement. “Huggin & Kissin” by Big Black Delta starts playing after Frankie shows off his music tracks.

After Cora kisses Frankie, she ends up in a threesome with J.D. and Todd. All of a sudden, Cora notices Frankie trying to revive Phoebe. While giving her CPR, Frankie breaks the fragile bones inside Phoebe’s chest.

Cora starts hitting Frankie, just like the day at the beach. After getting hit in the face, J.D. knocks her out.

The Sinner airs Wednesdays at 10pm on USA Network.
