After five knockout episodes, USA Network starts the next half with Episode 6 of their gripping crime drama, The Sinner, starring Jessica Biel. In the limited miniseries event, audiences are introduced to a murder mystery that doesn’t ask the “who” or the “what” — but the “why.”

After drug dealer J.D. (Jacob Pitts) attacked his father, Mason Tannetti (Christopher Abbott) drives out to confront him. With a gun in his hand, Mason is surprised to find J.D. lying dead. Escaping from the crime scene, Mason throws out his gun and makes a visit to the prison.

Mason and Cora (Biel) have a heart-to-heart talk about their marriage. While theirs is somewhat under repair, Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman) continues to have an affair with his dominatrix. He almost dies during their rough sex and purposely forgets to say the safe word. Just like his wife, the dominatrix doesn’t want anything to do with him.

In the flashback, young Cora (Raegan.Millican) has now grown up to become an adult age. Adult Phoebe (Nadia Alexander) is now 19 years old but still getting sicker. Phoebe is jealous that her own sister is moving on and has a relationship with J.D.

We learn that J.D. didn’t approve of Phoebe, calling her a “vampire.” Maddie doesn’t approve of the relationship between J.D. and Cora. J.D. though is quite enjoying the jealousy that Maddie feels towards Cora.

After spotting Mason in the street cameras, Harry and Captain Farmer (Joanna Adler) end up interrogating. Mason admits to having a gun but he did not kill J.D. Farmer believes the local drug killers may have killed J.D. but Harry suspects the mansion owners are responsible for his death.

With Cora’s fingerprints are on Maddie’s bloody blanket, Farmer reminds Harry that the clock is ticking. Harry’s problems at home continue after being unable to reconcile with his wife. Taking Cora to the mansion, to bring back forgotten memories, feels like a last-ditch effort to him.

After bribing a judge, Harry is able to take Cora out of prison and takes her to the mansion. They both have to return to the prison by 6pm or arrest warrants will be made in their name. With time running short, Cora fails to remember anything. Harry tries one last time and removes the handcuffs, letting Cora go.

In the flashback, Cora remembers climbing into bed with her sister. Phoebe wants Cora to kiss her like J.D. does. Cora reluctantly continues Phoebe’s sexual favors, bringing her close to climax.

Harry suddenly finds Cora staring at doorway. She now remembers what happened in the basement.

The Sinner airs Wednesdays at 10pm on USA Network.
