During San Diego Comic-Con ’18, Warner Bros. Pictures has released the official trailer to the upcoming superhero movie, Aquaman, starring Jason Momoa and Amber Heard. Director James Wan (Saw) brings the DC Comics character and his underwater world to life in all its glory.
Aquaman finds himself caught between a surface world that ravages the sea and the underwater Atlanteans who are ready to revolt.
Here are 5 reasons why we love the Aquaman trailer:
5) Under The Sea!
Just like he did in the Justice League, Momoa has the charisma and brash cockiness that brings the underwater superhero to life. Amber Heard is a queen of her own as Mera. Justice League introduced audiences to Atlantis and now we get a real visit under the sea.
4) Black Manta!
If you have seen The Get Down on Netflix, then you’ve recognized the actor behind Black Manta’s mask is Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Not only is the movie an Aquaman origin, the action blockbuster will also reveal how Black Manta came be.
3) Atlantis!
Just like director Patty Jenkins presented the paradise island of Themyscira in Wonder Woman, Wan will get a chance to envision the hidden aquatic civilization. Wan explains to Nerdist abut his world-building, “Design my own world, create my own creatures, and figure out my own language so to speak. And I got to do that with this film!”
2) The Tone!
Warner Bros. film chairman Toby Emmerich tells IndieWire how the cast and crew found the lighter tone, “They very instinctively were who they were when making this movie. And that comes through in the tone of this movie. I don’t think it was a reaction to what had come before. I think it was them being true to themselves.”
1) I’m Cheering!
Nicole Kidman is in this movie?!? You see how the crowd of Atlanteans are cheering in the trailer? That’s going to be me in the theaters come Christmas!
Aquaman arrives in theaters December 21, 2018.
