Before the new year, BOOM! Studios has unveiled an amazing slew of covers for the highly anticipated Buffy The Vampire Slayer #2. Based on the groundbreaking series starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, check out how the pop culture phenomenon will continue in the comic book realm.
As we previously mentioned, the license for the comic franchise based on the Joss Whedon-created franchise previously belonged to Dark Horse Comics. After 20 years, the license will be moving to a new comic publisher for the first time. BOOM! Studios will release new Buffy monthly comic series, limited series, graphic novels, and more in partnership with 20th Century Fox Consumer Products.
Here are 5 reasons why we’re excited for Buffy The Vampire Slayer #2:
5) The artists!
The main cover will be draw by acclaimed Mondo illustrator Matthew Taylor. There will also be covers by Kevin Wada (She-Hulk), Celia Lowenthal (Over The Garden Wall: Hollow Town), and Ryan Inzana (Ichiro).
4) Drusilla!
Drusilla, the self-proclaimed Mistress and her pet, Spike, make their debut with their sights set on Buffy! Meanwhile, Giles is determined to teach Buffy about her destiny, responsibility, blah blah…can someone tell him to chill? How bad can it get?
3) The Creative Team!
Writer Jordie Bellaire (Redlands) and artist Dan Mora (Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers) are the creative team behind this reboot. Series creator and story consultant Joss Whedon will be part of the reimagining. If you love the reboot of Firefly, then you’re going to love this one!
2) Female Empowerment!
Jeanine Schaefer, Executive Editor, BOOM! Studios, states, “There’s no rest for the wicked when the sun goes down on Sunnydale each night – and unfortunately for Buffy, that means she’s probably going to be late trying to finish whatever homework she’s got on her plate,”
1) Season 8!
Season 8 of Buffy The Vampire Slayer is a perfect example of the series being a reflection of our times. An examination of the Bush administration, Buffy found herself being chased by the government for the terrorist attack that destroyed Sunnydale. We live in a decisive time — with the #MeToo movement and the recent Brett Kavanaugh accusations — and we need a hero like Buffy more than ever.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer #2 will arrive in stores February 13th, 2019.
