Full of sword and monster-slaying action, Conan The Barbarian #2 (Marvel Comics) delivers a new heart-pounding adventure for author Robert E. Howard’s pulp hero. Whether they are new or familiar, readers will discover why the dark-haired Cimmerian is legendary for his iconic adventures.

CONAN finds himself beyond the Black River, surrounded by the warlike PICTS! But the tribesmen may be the least of his worries if he cannot fight his way through the demonic beasts slithering around the forest!

Here are 5 reasons why you should read Conan The Barbarian #2:

5) What Happened Before!

After giving a beating to his opponent in a gladiator battle, Conan then slept with the wrong woman. She actually turned out to be a very frightening and powerful Crimson Witch. Now her psycho children have waited years to get revenge on Conan.

4) The Writing!

Though the first issue left readers in a cliffhanger, writer Jason Aaron delivers a necessary flashback installment that highlights a forgotten aspect of Conan’s personality. With no family to call his own, Conan is just a lonely orphan searching for real companionship. The lettering by VC’s Travis Lanham bolds certain words to emphasize narrator’s running stream of consciousness.

3) The Artwork!

Artist Mahmud Asrar does a phenomenal job depicting the ferocity and intensity of the giant snakes. In the illustrations, we get a cheerful glimpse of the beer guzzling Conan, who also happens to be a ladies man. In the closeups, Asrar captures the conflict within Conan to either find a family or seek out adventure.

2) The Colors!

Colorist Matthew Wilson highlights the blood and drapes the panel in red when Conan swings his axe. Notice how the giant snakes stand out in the pages because of their bluish and white tones. I loved how half of Conan’s face is painted red in the climatic finale.

1) An Exciting Read!

Readers will truly love each spectacular page of Conan The Barbarian #2. Whether you’ve seen the movies, or read the books, the second installment will definitely make a Conan fan out of you!
