5) What Happened Before!

The battle between the Triceratops and the Utroms escalated to a point that the Turtles had to team up with the Mutanimals, At the conclusion of “Battle Lines,” the Turtles have truly lost and this defeat will haunt them. How will they deal with Slash’s sacrifice, knowing his murderer, Agent Bishop, is still out there?

4) Funeral For A Friend!

From a story by Kevin Eastman and Bobby Curnow, writer Tom Waltz does a phenomenal job capturing the emotional roller-coaster of being at a funeral. Part of you wants to grieve properly, but there’s something inside of you that’s angry at the unfairness of death. Shawn Lee’s lettering emphasizes the sadness and fury within Hob’s ranting monologue.

3) The Artwork!

Artist Michael Dialynas does a fanatic job picturing the expressions in the closeups. Dialynas understands Hob and Michelangelo are talking about the same thing, but coming from different viewpoints. The heartbreak continues with a touching flashback from Splinter. 

2) The Colors!

Notice how colorist Ronda Pattison uses warm colors to heighten the funeral setting. The light source is coming from the windows in the background. The green shading of the Turtles stand out in the opening pages.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #90 delivers a heartfelt and gripping story about death. The countdown begins we start heading towards the #100 issue milestone.
