Cyber Force #2, Image Comics

A nostalgic revival from Top Cow, Cyber Force #2 (Image Comics) continues as a visually bold re-imagination of the popular Marc Silvestri comic. As a perfect jumping-on point for new readers, fan-favorite characters are revisited with a new and relevant update.

Stryker must reconcile with what he’s become and what’s been done to his daughter, Carin. But there’s little time for either of them. A violent, new threat seeks to draft someone else to join her cause; Killjoy.

Here are 5 reasons why you should get Cyber Force #2:

5) What Happened Before…

In the first installment, an unfortunate terrorist attack sends Stryker to the hospital. In order to save her father’s life, Carin signs not the dotted line on a Faustian deal. The advanced technology rescued him from death, but turned him into something else, maybe something horrible.

4) A Familiar Face!

Writers Matt Hawkins and Bryan Hill reboot the narrative by bringing back Killjoy. Just as vicious as her previous incarnations, Killjoy though is given a more of a complex origin story. With reasons behind her rage, Killjoy is a pawn in a large-scale conspiracy.

3) The Artwork!

Artist Atilio Rojo captures the fun and excitement of Carin’s superhuman abilities through her facial expressions. Notice how easily the naiveness switches to the bleakness of a grim reality. Though her character design has changed, Rojo continues to use the skull-faced symbol on Killjoy.

2) The Colors!

In her introduction, Killjoy is bathed in green tones. The green shades are a continuation of Carin’s matching suit  Notice how the shadows and black inks highlight the extreme details in the red-themed panels.

1) A Stylish Read!

Overall, Cyber Force #2 manages to balance itself as a family drama and techno-thriller. I hope to see my favorite character, Ripclaw, in  an upcoming issues.
