Cyber Force #5, Image Comics

A standalone installment from Top Cow’s revival, Cyber Force #5 (Image Comics) revolutionizes the popular Marc Silvestri comic with the return of my favorite character. A jumping point for new readers, this issue of Cyber Force also serves as an origin story.

With the world still reeling from the sudden blackout of all networked technology, Stryker, Aphrodite, and Velocity are sent to find a deadly bounty hunter that could help them bring order to the chaos… but this bounty hunter has a secret that might stop CYBER FORCE before it starts.

Here are 5 reasons why you should get Cyber Force #5:

5) What Happened Before…

In the first installment, an unfortunate terrorist attack sends Stryker to the hospital. In order to save her father’s life, Carin signs on the dotted line of a twisted Faustian deal. The advanced technology rescued him from death, but also transformed the Aphrodite Project. Stryker, Aphrodite, and Velocity suffered a major loss from a deadly adversary from the future.

4) He’s Back!

Writers Matt Hawkins and Bryan Hill move away from the major storyline to feature the return of Ripclaw. Hinted by Troy Peteri’s lettering, Ripclaw is a tough dude who basks in his isolation from others. Ripclaw has to protect his small village due to the increase of crime from the global blackout!

3) The Artwork!

Artist Atilio Rojo is able to put a different spin on the character, while staying faithful to the character design. Ripclaw still has the long hair but he doesn’t have a neat ponytail. The red and white costume is gone and replaced with army gear.

2) The Colors!

I love the blue hues during the night setting. The light is coming from the full moon, since there’s no electricity. The green tones actually highlight the jungle surroundings.

1) A Gritty Read!

Overall, Cyber Force #5 brings back my favorite character, with all his toughness, into the techno-thriller genre. I can’t wait to see how Ripclaw meets the others in Cyber Force!
