In the last issue, Father Fred Wilfred and Norton found themselves connected to the mysterious legend of The Black Barn. Norton’s therapist, Angie, realizes she may also be a pawn in the mystery of the Black Barn. Fred though believes he was destined to fight evil as he learns more about the Black Barn’s history.
4) The Writing!
I don’t know how writer Jeff Lemire does it but he manages to answer questions, while landing a few new puzzlers in the process. Notice how Steve Wands bolds certain words in the captions, switching the lettering around for Xu’s monologue. Adding to the comic relief, Sheriff Miller is starting to develop a tender relationship with Fred.
3) The Artwork!
With such heavy inks, artist Andrea Sorrentino captures Xu’s constant fear of losing control. In a breathtaking two-pager, Sorrentino displays Xu’s mind falling apart, like some weird rubik’s cube. Is she losing her mind? or did she predict her own death?
2) The Colors!
Colorist Dave Stewart depicts love and murder in the same red hue. In a memorable panel, Xu and Norton find themselves entangled together in front of a red-shaped skull. The rain in the background brings out the gray tones and shadows.

Gideon Falls #4 delivers a jaw-dropping cliffhanger that twists the narrative! I’m definitely looking forward to what happens next in Gideon Falls!
