Memorably flashy and violently gritty, The New World #1 (Image Comics) has a hyper surrealistic look thanks to its sparkling dialogue and imaginative designs. Readers are absolutely going to get hooked on the outlandish and vibrant pop art of The New World!

The United States of America—after the Second Civil War. Two lovers meet. One: a straight-edge vegan hacker anarchist boy with a penchant for messing with the State. The other: a chaotic, hedonistic cop with a reality TV show and a license to kill. This really shouldn’t happen—and yet, somehow, it does. And soon, the entire state of New California is after them.

Here are 5 reasons why you should get The New World #1:

5) The Creative Team!

If you’re interested in Ales Kot’s writing, then I highly recommend you pick up Generation Gone. Before his take on the All-New Ghost Rider series, artist Tradd Moore pushed the horror genre to its goriest with Luther Strode. To see these two creative minds working together makes The New World extra special!

4) The Writing!

Writer Ales Kot presents readers with a bleak and apocalyptic future before letting them get acquainted with the two protagonists. In the opening pages, Knot does a great job introducing Stella and Kirby with their own short stories. Clayton Cowles lets loose with a stylish lettering that stands out.

3) The Art!

Artist Tradd Moore just goes bananas with the details in the illustrations! When Stella enters a room, notice the eye-popping graffiti art on the vandalized walls and floors. Moore does a fantastic job of making you feel like you’re living in this sci-fi world!

2) The Colors!

With such boldness, Heather Moore makes brilliant use of primary colors. In the opening pages, I love how you don’t see the action, the page is just filled with Cowles’ bold lettering and these bight big  flashy letters in a red backdrop.

1) Crazy Fun!

The first issue of The New World is a spectacularly crazy read! I can’t to see how the creative team is going to top themselves in the second issue!
