Writer Steve Niles envisions the first installment of Supernatural Dreams as the perfect jumping-on point for new fans and loyal readers. Niles recaps the major points from the previous events in October Fraction, which makes the dialogue easier to follow. The witty banter between the Allan family members is my favorite part of the issue.
4) A Dysfunctional Undead Family!
Supernatural Dreams does a great job presenting the sibling rivalry between Dante and Vivian. Fred, the patriarch of the Allan family, just wants his spoiled children to make an honest living with a 9 to 5 job. It’s also about the children making a name for themselves and striving to make their business succeed.
3) The Artwork!
Artist Damien Worm has such a sketchy and surreal style that makes the pages unique. I love how in a wide shot, the background is quite theatrical, showcasing just the curtain and windows. I love how the monsters in the pictures are all staring at the Allan family while they discuss business matters.
2) The Colors!
