With such hilarious dialogue and interesting characters, Quantum + Woody! #5 (Valiant Entertainment) is quite a refreshing read with its odd couple superhero team. Readers will appreciate the craziness that writer Daniel Kibblesmith and artist Kano deliver with each installment.
After three decades and 10,000 miles, the moment of truth has finally arrived. Our heroes are about to come face-to-face with Woody’s long-lost father! In Australia, will Woody abandon his adoptive brother, Eric, and trusted partner-in-crime-fighting to embrace a hard-partying scoundrel with no sense of decency? Mad scientist, Nicky Greenblatt-Tesla III aka Kid Tesla, has been manipulating vents behind-the-scene. Kid Tesla planned for Woody’s biological father to reconnect with his son, orchestrated Quantum and Woody’s falling out, and getting Quantum a job at the Wherehouse, all for the sake of bringing his sinister plan to fruition.
4) The Writing!
Right off the bast, writer Daniel Kibblesmith loves throwing around his humor into the dialogue. In the first page, clones are arguing amongst themselves. I laughed out loud when Eric called Kid Tesla a megalomaniacal 12-year-old. Poor Woody, he can’t only get attention from his absentee father when they’re drunk.

Artist Kano tops the absurd humor with such creative layouts. In a two-pager, with 28 panels each, Quantam and Woody have a big battle scene with mecha-koalas. Notice in the background, it’s a single image of Thedge, a giant plant monster, fighting an an army of cybernetic creatures.
2) The Colors!
Notice how the same colors are of different shades when characters are standing next to each other. Quantum and Woody are wearing the same blue attire, but Woody’s eye mask is brighter.

A hilarious read, Quantum + Woody! #5 manages to be touching, emotional, and hilarious — all at the same time! I’m looking forward to what happens next in the Quantum and Woody series.
