With tons of heart and humor, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #83 (IDW Publishing) gleefully keeps the action coming in an intense and entertaining battle. With each standout issue, the TMNT series manages to take the popular franchise into new and fresh territory.
In the third part of Kingdom of Rats, the Turtles take a major effort to thwart the Rat King. The TMNT travel to distant Siberia to try and enlist the help of his brother, Manmoth. The Turtles soon find that his welcome is less than warm in their new surroundings!
Here are 5 reasons why you should get Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #83:

Kingdom of Rats presented the inevitable return of the Rat King. Though there is a rift between them, Leonardo and Splinter had a frightening prophecy of the Rat King’s sinister plan. Unfortunately, the Turtles realize that their only ally, their only hope, happens to be Rat King’s brother.
4) Turtles In Snow!
From a story by Kevin Eastman and Bobby Curnow, writer Tom Waltz makes great use of the snowy and cold surroundings. Far from the city, the Turtles move slower in the snow and are unable to deal with the frigid weather. Shawn Lee’s lettering emphasizes certain words to highlight the tension, while focusing on the banter among the four.
3) The Artwork!
Artist Dave Wachter makes sure the Turtles look tiny and outmatched against the oversized Manmoth. In one panel, Wachter captures all four Turtles running from Manmoth’s ‘swinging giant axe. The climatic shot of Mikey’s standoff against Manmoth resembles the biblical confrontation between David and Goliath.
2) The Colors!
Notice how colorist Ronda Pattison highlights the pure whiteness of the snow in each panel. Most of the battle takes place during nighttime, with the moon as the only light source. The Turtles are in a pale green shade because the cold is making them feel sick.
