Dick Tracy Forever #3, IDW

An action-packed thriller, Dick Tracy Forever #3 (IDW Publishing) is an entertaining shoot-em-up blend of neo-noir and pulpy dialogue from the iconic police detective! Created by Chester Gould in 1931, Dick Tracy transcends time and space in this eye-popping reboot!

Dick Tracy is Sisyphus, pushing the law boulder up the hill as he struggles for reason and order in a world with none. His attempts at law and order are met with crime and chaos, in the form of unpredictable and absurd villains. But Dick Tracy will never give up trying, no matter the era or incarnation.

Here are 5 reasons why you should get Dick Tracy Forever #3:

5) What Happened Before!

Dick Tracy finds himself fighting crime in different decades. Even when Tracy is on a romantic date with Tess Trueheart, he is dedicated to the job and obsessed with laying down the law.  Tracy then reluctantly finds himself working side-by-side with Private Eye Bricks Walker.

4) The Writing!

Writer/artist Michael Avon Oeming does a fantastic job moving the narrative at a fast pace. More of a femme fatale, but still the love interest, Tess Trueheart ends up on the wrong side of the law. Letterer Shawn Lee highlights the romance between the duo, as Tracey tries to understand risk over outcome.

3) The Artwork!

Oeming captures a Mexican standoff that feels straight out of a Quentin Tarantino movie.  The shootout violence feels raw and intense as bullets are flying everywhere. I really enjoyed the high speed car chase as Tess takes the steering wheel.

2) The Colors!

Colorist Taki Soma spotlights the primary colors within the panels. During the car chase, one vehicle is painted red and the other is brushed in green. Notice Tracy’s blue vest stands out during these pages.

1) A Fantastic Read!

Dick Tracy Forever #3 builds the action-packed installment to a shocking cliffhanger. I’m looking forward to the upcoming conclusion of  the Dick Tracy Forever series.

Dick Tracy Forever #3 arrives in stores on June 26th, 2019.
