GLOW Vs the Star Primas, IDW

Based on the popular Netflix dramedy, GLOW Vs the Star Primas (IDW Publishing) brings in tons of wrestling, laughs, and heart in this comic take on The Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. Check out how the comic book versions of Alison Brie, Marc Macron, and Betty Gilpin find themselves in the ring against real lady wrestlers.

When the unthinkable happens and the women of GLOW find themselves ahead of schedule, Sam ruins the promise of a wrestling-free weekend with… more wrestling! Robbed of blissful relaxation and forced to raise money to fund their way to the event, the GLOW team is less-than-prepared for their opponents: real gorgeous lady wrestlers. What could possibly go wrong?! Zoya the Destroya, Liberty Belle, and the rest of your favorite Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling take to the pages for new fights, new tights, and new drama!

Here are 5 reasons why you should read GLOW Vs the Star Primas:

5) G.L.O.W.!

As we previously mentioned, Ruth Wilder (Brie) is an out-of-work actress living in Los Angeles. Wilder discovers an unexpected chance at stardom when she enters the glitter and spandex-laden world of women’s wrestling, Leading the pack of 12 other Hollywood misfits, Sam Sylvia (Marc Macron), a washed-up director of low-budget B movies, has to deliver on his promise of fame.

4) The Writing!

Script Slayer Tini Howard is really in tune to each character’s motivations, capturing the ensemble vibe. My favorite character, Carmen “Machu Picchu” Wade, gets to explore how her family history of wrestlers affects her stage fright. Letterer Christa “Bearauda” Miesner does a phenomenal job capturing the humor and personality in a packed panel full of supporting players.

3) The Artwork!

With a genuine love for Saturday morning cartoons, artist Hannah “Saurus Rex” Templer illustrates the zany humor with such animated glee. Saving the best for last, Templer captures the wrestling moves in tight closeups. Templer wants the reader to feel like they’re in the match alongside the wrestlers, rather than being an observer.

2) The Colors!

Colorist Rebecca “The Deadline Crusher” Nalty highlights the ‘80s theme with the bright and primary backgrounds. The throwback fashion really stands out in the pages. Notice how Carmen’s colorful wardrobe has a rainbow-like palette.

1) A Fun Read!

A tremendously fun read, GLOW Vs the Star Primas explores the group dynamic with such high spirited energy. I would love more standalone stories featuring Zoya and Machu Picchu.

GLOW Vs the Star Primas is out in stores on November 13th, 2019.
