Livewire #9, Valiant

A pulse-pounding sci-fi political thriller, Livewire #9 (Valiant Entertainment) makes sure the super-powered heroine delivers a satirical jab at the media. A first-rate adrenaline kicker, readers are going to love how the action sequences roll out in the Livewire series.

Wanted fugitive Livewire has been on the run for months from the authorities for shutting down the country’s power in an effort to protect people gifted with powers. Will a shocking offer to go public pull Livewire into a political spotlight?

Here are 5 reasons why you should get Livewire #9:

5) What Happened Before!

While investigating the disappearance of a young psiot girl, Livewire stumbles upon OMEN’s secret facility. It’s a training ground where young psiots are taken and taught to control their powers. It was actually a facility run by the same people contracted to hunt and kill psiots.

4) The Writing!

In the opening pages, writer Vita Ayala does a great job introducing Senator John Wight, who is charming and sleazy at the same time. Wright has ideas on how to fix Livewire’s image problem with the public. Notice how letterer Saida Temofonte uses thought captions to keep readers inside Livewire’s mind during an action sequence.

3) The Artwork!

I love how artist Tana Ford emphasizes the confidence and slickness within Senator Wright. Notice how Wight’s posturing is very different from his campaign manager, Gwen Goodman. Gwen is always standing behind the senator, following his next move. If the senator is smiling, she also has to smile.

2) The Colors!

Notice Colorist Kelly Fitzpatrick mixes the tones when Livewire uses her powers. In the opening action sequence, there are pink, black, and purple tones meshed together when Livewire’s eyes start glowing. Fitzpatrick is visually telling the reader that Livewire is creating a psychic disturbance.

1) A Knockout Read!

The start of a new story arc, Livewire #9 takes the series to another level! I can’t wait to see where the second arc of the Livewire series goes from here!

Livewire #9 arrives in stores August 21st, 2019.
