Image Comics delivers an action-packed horror tale with Nocterra #1, which kicks off its unique premise at full speed. With the creative minds of Scott Snyder and Tony S. Daniel leading the charge, readers are in for a colorful and thrilling apocalyptic vision.
“Ten years after the world is plunged into an everlasting night that turns all living creatures into monstrous shades, the only way to survive is to stay close to artificial light. Enter Valentina “Val” Riggs, a skilled ferryman who transports people and goods along deadly unlit roads with her heavily illuminated eighteen-wheeler.”
Here are 5 reasons why you should read Nocterra #1:
5) The Ferryman!
The ferryman is a significant figure in Greek mythology and Roman mythology. The ferryman carries the souls of the dead across the river Styx. The world is divided between the living and the dead. The apocalyptic world in Nocterra is divided between light and darkness.
4) The Writing!
In the writing department, Scott Snyder sets up the origin story of Valentina “Val” Riggs through action sequences and flashbacks. Readers will learn more about Val’s vulnerabilities through the way she acts with family and her clients. The lettering by Deron Bennett hints at the cracks in Val’s tough exterior.
3) The Artwork!
Through the artwork, Tony S. Daniel is able to move the action at breakneck speed. The intense action demonstrates a lot about Val’s ninja-like skills. Like a camera, the panel follows Val as she moves in and around her eighteen-wheeler.
2) The Coloring!
Tomeu Morey’s vibrant colors provide a distinct look at the monsters. The colors add to the hideous shapes and extended claws. Even the lighting inside the wheeler makes you feel like there is a party going on.
1) A Fantastic Read!
Impossible to put down, Nocterra is a fantastic horror/action hybrid that readers will absolutely devour. The first issue does a great job selling its concept.
Nocterra #1 will be available on March 3rd, 2021.
