With the small team, Dr. Reyes is joined by Lt. Morris and. Dr. McCormick into the cave expedition. The mysterious caves reveal something ancient and monstrous lurking in the shadows. While the team investigates the caves, the virus continues to spread.
4) The Writing!
Writers Cullen Bunn and Kyle Straham do a fantastic job analyzing the virus effects on a physical and emotional level. Not only do we witness the cave explorers freaking out and succumbing to paranoia, the outside world isn’t getting better, The lettering by Crank! heightens the suspense and tension as the group appears to gradually lose trust.
3) The Artwork!
Artist Baldemar Rivas kicks off the story with the grossest image of the viral infection. The animal’s body lets itself go and grows a massive blob. Rivas builds the suspense by not showing too much of creature in the caves. Readers get bits and pieces of the extended tentacles.
2) The Colors!
The red tones really stand out as the caves cramp together, leaving little space to move through. Notice how the yellow tone seems to glow and spread from the skin of the creature to its potential victim.

Well-crafted body horror, Unearth #3 is deeply unsettling as a medical thriller. Horror fans are definitely going to enjoy the hell out of Unearth #3.
