Scrawl, Daisy Ridley

Wild Eye Releasing delivers a suspenseful supernatural thriller with their Scrawl DVD, starring Daisy Ridley and Liam Hughes. Underneath the gore and kills, writer/director Peter Hearn captures the raw emotion behind his somber coming-of-age tale.

Simon Goodman (Liam Hughes) is a 16-year boy living in a rundown seaside town. With his best friend Joe Harper (Joe Daly), they create a comic book called, “Scrawl,” as a way to escape their reality, gain some notoriety and more importantly pick up girls. Annie Williams (Annabelle Le Gresley), a girl who hides behind her camera, gets wrapped up in the boys new world. With the appearance of a mysterious girl, Hannah (Daisy Ridley), events from the comic book start to invade their reality and situations in the comic book come to life.

Here are 5 reasons why you should see Scrawl:

5) Daisy Ridley!

Scrawl

With her magnetic screen presence, Daisy Ridley carries the full weight of Hannah’s devious personality in her scene. Showing off her range, Ridley has to be a menacing figure, a taunting mastermind, and a seductive manipulator all at once. Viewers will come away in awe of Ridley as Hannah carefully steers the suspenseful narrative to work in her favor.

4) Liam Hughes!

As Simon Goodman, Liam Hughes portrays the loneliness, the heartache, and the angst of being a teenager. Goodman (Hughes) lacks friendships, which is how Hannah (Ridley) uses his loneliness and feeds off his emotions. Hughes understands how to develop Simon’s underdog character arc before the bloody massacre at the climax.

3) The Music!

Composer Dan Hall really drives the suspense with his memorable tracks. My favorite scene is when Hannah (Ridley) taunts Frank (Mark Forester-Evans) with a rhythmical tune, which segues into Hall’s composition. Pulling off such a fantastic scene, Hall’s memorable music is in tune to Ridley’s remarkable talents.

2) The Director!

Writer/director Peter Hearn captures a moving teen drama with his eager young cast. Matty Crawford’s cinematography focuses on the emotion behind their performances. With the aid of Crawford’s editing, Hearn heightens the suspense during the gory kills and speeds up the chase scenes.

1) A Great Lead!
