Netflix has announced the premiere date for Season 5 of their gangster/family drama, Peaky Blinders, starring Cillian Murphy. In the lawless streets of Birmingham, Tommy Shelby (Murphy) continues his transformation from backstreet crime lord to legitimate businessman and member of parliament.

Thomas Shelby and his family have bigger ambitions than just running the streets. It all began when a crate of guns went missing. Tommy recognized an opportunity to advance in the world because crime may pay but running a legitimate business pays better.

Here are 5 Reasons why we’re excited of the fifth season of Peaky Blinders:

5) The Story!

When the fifth season starts, the viewers will be thrust into a world in turmoil by the financial crash of 1929. Tommy Shelby MP is approached by a charismatic politician with a bold vision for Britain. Tommy realizes that his response will impact not only the future of his family, but that of the entire nation.

4) The Returning Cast!

Returning cast members includes Helen McCrory as Polly Gray, Paul Anderson as Arthur Shelby, Sophie Rundle as Ada Thorne (Shelby), Finn Cole as Michael Gray, Kate Phillips as Linda Shelby, Natasha O’Keeffe as Lizzie Stark, Aidan Gillen as Aberama Gold, Jack Rowan as Bonnie Gold, Charlie Murphy as Jessie Eden, Kingsley Ben-Adir as Col Ben Younger, Harry Kirtonas Finn Shelby, Packy Lee as Johnny Dogs, Ned Dennehy (Good Omens) as Charlie Strong, Ian Peck as Curly, and poet/musician Benjamin Zephaniah as Jeremiah Jesus.

 3) The New Cast!

 Joining the ensemble this season on Steven Knight’s acclaimed crime family saga includes Sam Claflin as Oswald Mosley, Anya Taylor-Joy as Gina Gray, Brian Gleeson as Jimmy McCavern, Neil Maskell as Winston Churchill, Kate Dickie as Mother Superior, Cosmo Jarvis as Barney and  Emmett J Scanlan as Billy Grade.

Season 5 is directed by Anthony Byrne (Ripper Street) and produced by Annie Harrison-Baxter. The fifth season of Peaky Blinders premieres Friday, October 4th, 2019 on Netflix.
