WGN America has acquired the U.S. rights to the compelling Canadian drama, Bellevue, starring the dynamic and charismatic Anna Paquin (X-Men). Audiences should get get ready for a thrilling eight-episode, one-hour crime/mystery drama produced by Muse Entertainment and Back Alley Film Productions.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bellevue happens to be a small town with big secrets. 20 years ago, the murder of a young woman traumatized the community.  Has the killer returned? Now with a high school hockey star goes missing, all signs point to foul play.

Here are 5 reasons why we’re excited to watch Bellevue on WGN:

5) We Love Anna Paquin!

After seven seasons on True Blood, audiences fell in love with Anna Paquin as the tough and feisty Sookie Stackhouse. Now the Academy Award winner  executive produces and plays Detective Annie Ryder, who must unravel all the pieces to this gripping mystery before her own life falls apart. Annie confronts  mysterious person from her past, who has disturbing answers and a terrifying need to get inside her head. Annie is at odds with her ex, Eddie (Allen Leech) and her own boss, Police Chief Peter Welland (Shawn Doyle).

4) A New Kind Of Creators!

In  TV Junkies’ “Women Behind Canadian TV” series, Jane Maggs brought Adrienne Mitchell, a principal owner and Executive Producer at Back Alley Film Productions her script to the pilot and history was made. The creators/showrunners added April Mullen (Wynonna Earp) and Kim Nguyen (War Witch) to direct a few episodes. The first season will solve the mystery by the end of its arc, making sure of eight episode counts and doesn’t serve as filler.

3) The Sound of Thunder!

The song playing throughout the trailer is Nicholas Kingsley and Daniel Farrant’s
“The Sound of Thunder.”

2) A Staple For Drama!

WGN America became a staple for must-see original dramas, including Manhattan, Underground, and Outsiders. We definitely recommend readers picking up Season 2 of Outsiders on DVD.

1) Do You Like Mysteries?

Thanks to Twin Peaks: The Return, Broadchurch, and The Sinner, we’re very excited to watch Bellevue and follow Anna Paquin, who’ll always be the X-Men’s superhero Rogue to us, as she solves a small town mystery.

Bellevue will premiere in early 2018 on WGN America.
