A past case come back to haunt them as NBC continues the action-packed Season 4 drama of Blindspot with Episode 14: The Big Blast From The Past Episode, starring Jaimie Alexander and Sullivan Stapleton. After the shocking events of Season 3, will Kurt Weller (Stapleton) solve the mystery tattoos before its too late for Jane Doe (Alexander)?
When we last left them off, Zapata (Audrey Esparza) told Reade (Rob Brown) that she had the evidence to bring down Madeline Burke (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio). Unfortunately, Tasha was ambushed in the bathroom. Though she has returned back to the FBI, Reade doesn’t welcome her back with open arms.
With a scrambled device, Patterson (Ashley Johnson) and Rich Dotcom (Ennis Esmer) have no way of knowing where Madeline has turned to next. Zapata tells Jane that she she feels lost at her old job. The case against Madeline is put on hold when three bombings strike.
During the meeting, Zapata recognizes the staging of the bombings. It all goes back to a previous case the FBI team was working on. Now the real bomber is saying in his threatening messages that the FBI framed an innocent person.
In the flashbacks, Kurt was in the middle of his search for Jane, after she went missing. With Patterson gone, Zapata was thinking of taking a job at the CIA. Rich was still in handcuffs, Stuart (Jordan Johnson Hinds) was alive, and Eleanor Hirst (Mary Stuart Masterson) was still in charge.
With Lily (Kayla Foster) as a potential suspect, Zapata thinks she has the bomber. The team just needs a confession from her. After Zapata attempts to grill him, Kurt thinks she should ease up on Lily. With Lily lawyering up, the team has less than an hour to get a full confession.
Elsewhere, FBI director Matthew Weitz (Aaron Abrams) decides to take matters into his own hands. Weitz and Stuart falsify the video evidence, connecting Lily to the bombings. This is the only way to get a confession out of Lily.
What the team doesn’t realize is that Matthew has already spoken with the real bomber. Now that the team has a location on the bomber’s whereabouts, Matthew decides to hold a drone strike. Matthew thinks he is in the clear, believing that the copycat bomber is fake.
Kurt decides to pay Hirst a visit. She confesses that the video was fake because Stuart admitted what he did. Kurt confronts Matthew but he only manages to threaten Jane’s livelihood.
While Kurt decides to leave him alone for now, Matthew gets a call from the bomber; he’s still alive. This was all an elaborate plan to incriminate Weitz. Matthew will be called upon for a favor in the future.
From beyond the grave, Shepard has left a puzzle and a ring for Jane to solve.
Blindspot continues on NBC Fridays at 8pm.
