HBO airs the first season finale of the critically acclaimed Watchmen, with Episode 9: See How They Fly, starring Regina King and Jeremy Irons. Based on the DC comics masterpiece by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, find out what happens in the alternate future where police officers band together against an impending apocalypse.
In the past, Lady Trieu (Hong Chau)’s mother stole Adrian Veidt (Irons)’s sperm from a hidden vault in his Antarctic lair. Years later, Lady Trieu shows up at Adrian’s doorstep, revealing that she is his daughter. Refusing to give her the money to kill Dr. Manhattan, Veidt will never admit that she is his daughter.
Out on Europa, Ozymandias waits for Lady Trieu’s rescue spaceship to arrive. Ozymandias kills the Game Warden (Tom Mison) before entering the spaceship. The Game Warden wasn’t a worthy opponent, but he put on a show.
Meanwhile, Laurie Blake (Jean Smart) is being held captive by the 7th Cavalry. The high ranking members of Cyclops are waiting for Dr. Manhattan’s arrival. Senator Joe Keane (James Wolk) wants to transfer the powers of Dr. Manhattan into himself and make the world better for white people.
As Lady Trieu powers up her giant sphere, Looking Glass (Tim Blake Nelson) and Laurie suddenly see Dr. Manhattan. After getting the location, Angela arrives to warn Keane. Lady Trieu allowed the 7th Cavalry to steal her equipment because she wanted Dr. Manhattan. Refusing to listen, Keane enters the chamber and transforms into a bloody goop.
Though he’s trapped in the cell, Dr. Manhattan (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) uses the last bit of his power to teleport Looking Glass, Laurie, and Ozymandias. At his hideout, Ozymandias races against the clock to save the world. While Lady Trieu slaughters the rest of the 7th Cavalry, Dr. Manhattan’s life flashes before his eyes before he dies.As the giant sphere siphons Doctor’s Manhattan’s powers, Ozymandias unleashes a storm of baby squids onto Tulsa. Angela takes cover at a movie theater as the raining squids decimate Lady Trieu. One of falling squids goes through Lady Trieu’s hands, before the giant sphere falls on top of her.
With Angela’s kids sleeping, Will Reeves (Louis Gossett Jr.) gives a bit of grandfatherly advice to her. Masks don’t heal old wounds. They need air to breathe. Elsewhere, Laurie arrests Veidt from crimes against humanity, especially for the murder of her father.
Back at home, Angela remembers what Dr. Manhattan told her. He can transfer his powers into an object; an egg. Angela realizes if she eats the egg, she will have his powers.
With her newfound powers, Angela decides to walk on water.
Watchmen has concluded on HBO.
