Showtime presents the shocking season 5 premiere, entitled Abby, to the critically acclaimed crime drama, Ray Donovan, starring Liev Schreiber. In the first episode of the new season, Ray (Schreiber) find himself with his family scattered after a tragic death.

10 months have passed, Ray is a widower and his family divided by tragedy. His own son, Connor Donovan (Devon Bagby), doesn’t want his father visiting him at school. While Ray  attends his court-ordered therapy sessions, Terry Donovan (Eddie Marsan) shows off the glitches inside the pacemaker in his head.

Bridget (Kerris Dorsey) has runaway to Chicago and searches for a mysterious stranger. The stranger holds a mysterious connection to her mother. Bridget calls back home and tells her father that she has found “The Kid.”

Mickey Donovan (Voight) is already at work on his screenplay. After a set of rewrites, Mickey recites his bad dialogue as if he was Shakespeare. In the story, there is a gangster who pleads with a cop not to shoot him; his daughter needs his heart for an operation.

Training to be wrestler, Bunchy Donovan (Dash Mihok) is having difficulty learning the moves and screws up his timing. Juggling work as well, Bunchy’s not sure where his priorities lie. During his audition, Bunchy screws up big time in the ring as he knocks out a fellow wrestler unconscious.

In his flashbacks, Ray has a conversation in the car with Abby (Paula Malcolmson). While battling cancer, Paula has an idea of how she wants to spend her life. All of a sudden, Ray and Paula end up in a car crash, after swerving away from a naked young woman.

After accepting a new job for the Hollywood elite, Ray meets with Hollywood mogul, Samantha Winslow (Susan Sarandon). Samantha offers Ray advice; don’t get pushed out. She then asks Ray to drive her son, George. While in the car, George blurts out he saw his sister die.

Ray heads back to the boxing center and remembers the celebration his wife held. He noticed his wife had a tear in her eye. He ends up finding Terry in tears. Knowing trouble is coming, Terry has to return a gift Abby gave him.

Back at home, Ray wonders up the stairs and remembers what happened on that tragic night. He saw his daughter lying on the floor crying. He turns away from Bridget and opens the bedroom door.

Mickey stumbles upon Ray sleeping in his daughter’s bedroom, takes away the empty bottle, and closes the door behind him.

Ray Donovan airs Sundays on Showtime at 9pm.
