The popular superhero drama, Supergirl, has its Season 3 premiere date locked for The CW Network. We’re very excited for the return of Melissa Benoist as the DC Comics superhero and Chyler Leigh as her sister and crime-fighting partner.

The second season followed Kara Danvers (Benoist) as she teamed up with her famous cousin Superman (Tyler Hoechlin).  The path for enemies and allies grew with the inclusion of Mon-El (Chris Wood) and James Olson (Mehcad Brooks) becoming The Guardian. The Girl of Steel found her friendship with Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath) tested as an invasion from the skies threatened National City.

[SPOILERS Ahead] We have 5 reasons why we’re excited for the third season of Supergirl:

5. The Time Slot!

As we previously mentioned, the CW has announced the fall lineup premiere schedule. Sticking to its usual night and time slot, Supergirl kicks off Monday nights at 8pm before Valor follows up at 9pm. Will we discover what happened to Mon-El after he was sucked into the wormhole? To be honest, I just want Supergirl and Lena Luthor to end up together! They’re so adorable those two!

4. Who’s Reign!?!

The second season finale ended with a major cliffhanger that introduced the new big bad. According to IGN, Odette Annable (Cloverfield) has joined the cast as the DC super-villain, Reign. During the finale, we saw Reign being placed into an escape pod during the destruction of Krypton. While Supergirl was destined to save mankind, Reign is meant to rule over the human race.

3. That Proposal!

In a scene that will melt your cold, cold hearts, Alex Danvers (Leigh) proposed to her girlfriend, Maggie Saywer (Floriana Lima). Will they make it down the aisle or will Alex be stood up on her wedding day? In the Funeral for a Friend mythology, Maggie Sawyer was strangled to death by Lex Luthor. Will the TV show follow the comics?

2. More Crossovers!

During the second season, the Girl of Steel teamed-up with the scarlet speedster twice. First, she saved Earth-1 from alien invasion and then she sang her heart out with The Flash (Grant Gustin) in their musical-themed episode. For both shows, these crossover episodes were the highest-rated; so it’s likely there will be more.

1. The Guest Stars!

First, the original Wonder Woman showed up! Lynda Carter was introduced as the President, who also happens to be an alien in disguise. Kevin Sorbo (Hercules: The Legendary Journey) and Teri Hatcher (Lois and Clark: The Adventures of Superman) dropped in as Mon-El’s parents. And to top it all off, Kevin Smith (Clerks) directed an episode! How are the show creators going to top this?

Season 2 of Supergirl is now on Netflix. The third season is scheduled to begin Monday October 9th.
