A grungy and entertaining read, horror fans are absolutely going to love the bloody finale behind 30 Days of Night #6 (IDW Publishing). In its riveting conclusion, Steve Niles and Piotr Kowalski boldly reimagine the critically acclaimed comic book series that became an instant blockbuster horror movie franchise.

As we previously mentioned, the sun has set over an isolated Alaskan township and will not rise again for the next thirty days. A new evil emerges from the shadows to terrorize the town. After a series of strange events and horrific killings, the question becomes, what lurks in the shadows?

Here are 5 reasons why you should get 30 Days of Night #6:

5) What Happened Before…

In the previous issues, Deputy Stella Olemaun was promoted to Sheriff under the worst circumstances. In the endless dark, can the newly appointed — and newly widowed — Sheriff Stella Olemaun save the last desperate vestiges of humanity in the town? What will happen if she’s too late to stop the vampires?

4) Not A Remake!

With some major changes from the original, I loved how writer Steve Niles focuses on the tension between old-school and new-school. The older generation of bloodsuckers have been hiding in the shadows, letting their names become myths. The new age of vampires just want to feel the power of being feared. Notice how Tom B. Long gives both generations their own special lettering.

4) The Vampires Attack!

Artist Piotr Kowalski loves illustrating the vampires fighting their own kind. Their in-fighting resembles a pack of wolves tearing at each other’s throats. Notice in the background, the town catches fire as chaos ensues.

2) The Colors!

Look at how colorist Brad Simpson bathes the panel in whiteness from the snow. The panels turn to red when the bloody vampire action starts.

1) A Must Read!

In its concluding chapter, 30 Days of Night #6, the horror comic steers towards a satisfying finish. I can’t wait to read the six-issue miniseries from the very beginning!
