More than just ‘80s nostalgia, RoboCop: Citizens Arrest #3 (BOOM! Studios) captures the gritty action and biting satire surrounding the cyberpunk genre. Writer Brian Wood and artist Jorge Coelho push the story to the new heights with their imaginative reboot of the Robocop franchise!

Alex Murphy, the original RoboCop, appears to side against OCP. Now the news reports appear that call into question if he’s a risk to the public. Or if OCP needs to take drastic measures to take him down.

Here are 5 reasons why you should get RoboCop: Citizens Arrest #3:

5) What Happened Before…

In the first installment, RoboCop realizes he has outlived everyone he knows, becoming an urban tale for the hopeless. Leo Reza, a rebellious youth , thinks he has a way to hurt the corrupt system run by corporations. Finally making his own decision, RoboCop made his first appearance in front of the cameras.

4) The Writing!

Continuing with the the film’s social commentary, writer Brian Wood makes great use of conservative talk shows moving the momentum. We’re more involved with the Leo and seeing the sacrifices he has to make to save the Ruins. With the subtle lettering by Ed Dukeshire, we notice how much RoboCop needs a partner to to become his moral compass .

3) The Artwork!

Artist Jorge Coelho captures the action-fest as RoboCop takes on his robot rivals. Coelho illustrates the ruthlessness of OCP’s law officials, who show no remorse targeting minorities.  Ripped from the headlines, we see how law enforcement are removing innocent children from their families.

2) The Colors!

My favorite part is the police chase involving RoboCop and his partner. Colorist Doug Garbark highlights the western landscape in the background. The sun’s red and orange tones intensify the standoff between RoboCop and the police.

1) A Fun Read!

Taking the franchise to new heights, RoboCop: Citizens Arrest #3 rejuvenates the series with its bold socio-political commentary. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next  installment.
