Cyber Force #3, Image Comics

More than a nostalgic revival from Top Cow, Cyber Force #3 (Image Comics) revolutionizes the popular Marc Silverstri comic with a visually stunning and bleak narrative. Cyber Force has managed to be a perfect jumping-on point for new readers, while revisiting fan-favorite characters.

Who is the mother of artificial intelligence? The reimagining of Cyber Force continues as the origins of the “Aphrodite Project” are revealed…along with the dark intentions of the group that helped create her.

Here are 5 reasons why you should get Cyber Force #3:

5) What Happened Before…

In the first installment, an unfortunate terrorist attack sends Stryker to the hospital. In order to save her father’s life, Carin signs on the dotted line of a Faustian deal. The advanced technology rescued him from death, but turned him into something else. In the second installment, Killjoy discovers she is a pawn in a large-scale conspiracy.

4) The Familiar Faces!

Writers Matt Hawkins and Bryan Hill reboot the narrative by focusing on the Aphrodite project. I don’t want to say too much about the story because it dives into spoilery territory. What I thought as interesting was how the writers, with help by the thought captions from Troy Peteri,  told the perspective of a prisoner pushed down by the government.

3) The Artwork!

Artist Atilio Rojo captures the tough and cold-heartedness of Dr. Morrigan’s facial expressions. Notice how Morrigan refuses to get personal with her superiors in authority. Rogo captures her breaking point in a heartbreaking and emotionally charged scene.

2) The Colors!

The green hues are a major importance in every page. Dr. Morrigan works in a hi-tech lab with glowing green monitors. The green tones also match the color of her piercing eyes.

1) A Trippy Read!

Overall, Cyber Force #3 removes itself as a family drama and dives into the techno-thriller genre. I hope to see my favorite character, Ripclaw, in  an upcoming issue.

Cyber Force #3 arrives in stores on May 30th, 2018.
