Delivered with so much grit and punchy energy in every page, Dick Tracy: Dead or Alive #3 (IDW Publishing) continues to hold up as a neo-noir procedural with attitude. The most iconic comic-strip heroes of all time makes his return in an eye-popping reboot!

Dick Tracy finds himself on the run from both crooks and cops! Can he survive long enough to clear his name?

Here are 5 reasons why you should get Dick Tracy: Dead or Alive #3:

5) What Happened Before!

As we previously mentioned, Dick Tracy made the biggest collar of his career. Unfortunately, being a good cop cost him his job. Now, the honest cop has packed his bags to make a new life or himself by “the city by the lake.”

4) The Writing!

With Michael Allred and Lee Allred on writing duties, Dick Tracy gets a chance to show off his disguises and  street smarts. A neat twist on the undercover cop genre, Tracy has to wander around unnoticed as his alternate persona. Letterer Shawn Lee captures so much energetic style when different characters speak on the page.

3) The Artwork!

The pencils by Rich Tommaso add to the quick pacing of the action sequences. The inks from Mike Allred add to the shadows of the corrupt police force. Notice how the face of The Mole looks downright weird but the shape of his head is perfectly rotund.

2) The Colors!

Colorist Laura Allred bring a lot of her vivid palette with the character, Lanthorn. Notice how you don’t need to see the color of Lanthorn’s eyes because of his black shaded glasses. The yellow tones of Tracy’s trench coat are so striking, especially the tones match with the color of Lanthorn’s hair.

1) A Great Read!

Another knockout installment, Dick Tracy: Dead or Alive #3 is a perfect blend of crime and police procedural. For new readers who have never heard of Dick Tracy, this is absolutely the perfect place to start.
