A spectacular re-imagination of Arthurian legends, Sword of Ages #4 (IDW Publishing) gets the pages dancing with such sweeping action and visual marvels. The fourth installment of Sword of Ages is definitely the wildest spectacle of the series!

As we previously mentioned, this is an all-new vision of the Excalibur myth. Witness the beginning of the end! Avalon and her companions must face off against the combined might of the Red Clan and the Templar Order!

Here are 5 reasons why you should pick up Sword of Ages #4:

5) The Epic Story Continues!

The first installment introduced young warrior known as Avalon, who was sent on a quest to find the Lady of the Lake and retrieve the Sacred Sword. Unfortunately, the sword refuses to be drawn. Avalon helplessly watches as the citadel of Caledia is under siege.

4) The Writing!

Writer/artist Gabriel Rodriguez fills each detailed panel with his characters in battle. The Black Star Templars and the Red Clan Barbarians are fighting hideous creatures, giant monsters, and pushing through force fields. Across three panels, Avalon fights back in the skirmish as she swings her weapon.

3) The Colors!

Colorist Lovern Kindzierski highlights the primary colors, so that readers can be able to distinguish the different character. For example, Samson stands out in the battlefield because of his white wardrobe. Kindzierski even colors the dialogue captions by letterer Robbie Robbins so that we know who’s talking.

2) Bonus Material!

In the bonus pages, Rodriguez explains how Caledia and battle at the citadel wall was illustrated. It starts with a sketch layout of the double-page spread. The process continues with the addition of inks and adjusting the grayscale.

1) A Fantastic Read!

Overall, Sword of Ages #4 does an excellent job of creating an intense battlefield! I’m really enjoying the imaginative world-building within the Sword of Ages series!
