With Back 40 Pictures and Shout! Studios announcing the beginning of production, WWE powerhouses CM Punk and AJ Mendez join actress Laura Vandervoort in the upcoming horror film, Rabid. In the remake of of David Cronenberg’s 1977 classic horror film, the Soska Sisters will bring together body horror and the glamorous world of high fashion.

As we previously mentioned, Rose (Vandervoort) is a young woman who suffers a disfigurement after an accident. This leads her to a radical and untested stem-cell treatment. While turning Rose into the belle of the ball, the experimental transformation also comes with a deadly price.

Here are 5 reasons we’re excited for Rabid:

5) The Ensemble Cast!

Hanneke Talbot (Playing Dead) will portray Rose’s best friend, Chelsea. Mackenzie Gray (Riverdale) will play an arrogant fashion designer known as “Gunter.” Punk joins the flick in the role of Billy and the bestselling Crazy Is My Superpower author plays Kira. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ben Hollingsworth (Code Black) will be seen as a fashion photographer Brad.

4) Not A Shot-For-Shot Remake!

The American Mary filmmakers promise this isn’t a rehash of the original, “Our Rabid is a continuation of the thoughts and conversation David started, but modernized through a female perspective. The film will not only honor his original Rabid but also Cronenberg’s entire body of work. This would not have been possible without a team behind us that cares about the artist as well as the fans.”

3) A Fun Twist!

Producer Paul Lalonde mentions, “We’ve got a fantastic cast, a great crew, top notch special effects and industry leading stunt coordinators. And having the whole story set against the backdrop of high fashion, that’s not only a great chance for some important social commentary, it’s also a really fun twist on horror. A peek inside the world of haute torture if you will.”

2) She’s Laura Vandervoort That’s Why?

We also mentioned, Vandervoort shared the behind-the-scenes process of being drenched in blue gel by Masters FX, who have done work for The Handmaid’s Tale and The Magicians.

1) Dead Hooker In A Trunk!

Taking Hollywood by storm with their directorial debut, Jen and Sylvia Soska wrote, directed, and acted in this explosive ride of extreme violence, blood, guts, gore with Dead Hooker in a Trunk.  I agree with Lalonde when he says, “The Soska twins are the hottest young directors in the horror space right now.”

Back 40 Pictures will handle the theatrical distribution duties. We anxiously await to hear news of the release date of Rabid.
