Filled with colorful, eccentric characters, Dakota Johnson, Jon Hamm, and Chris Hemsworth are part of 20th Century Fox’s star-studded cast of Bad Times at the El Royale. Just about anyone from from your favorite Marvel movie and TV show is playing a shady persona in writer/director  Drew Goddard’s crime thriller.

7 strangers, each with a secret to bury, meet at a run-down hotel in Lake Tahoe in 1960s California. Over the course of a fateful night, they all get one last shot at redemption — before everything goes horribly wrong.

Here are reasons we love the official trailer of Bad Times at the El Royale:

5) I Heard This Joke Before!?!

Tell me if you heard this one before?!? At the El Royale, a rundown hotel, the bellhop (played by Lewis Pullman) warns a priest (Jeff Bridges) that, “This is not a place for a priest, Father. You shouldn’t be here.” Bridges’ Father Daniel Flynn straight-up confesses, “I’m not really a priest.”

4) Emily Summerspring!

With Fifty Shades Freed completing the erotic trilogy, Johnson is taking her career to new heights. First, there’s her horror movie, Suspiria, coming up! Johnson joins the cast as the feisty criminal, Emily Summerspring, in Bad Times at the El Royale.

3) The Femme Fatale!?!

We first see Johnson’s Emily lighting up a cigarette during Jon Hamm’s monologue. She may even have someone tied up in her hotel room. But then the tables are turned as Summerspring is then taken hostage in a later scene!

2) Who’s Spying Who!?!

And speaking of Jon Hamm, the Mad Men actor is playing the hotel manager, Laramie Seymour Sullivan. He’s been secretly spying on his guests through two-way mirrors. Is Sullivan the big bad? Or should we be worried about the the cult leader Billy Lee (Chris Hemsworth)?

1) The Cabin In The Woods!

Writer/director Drew Goddard turned the entire horror genre on its head with the mind-tripping The Cabin in the Woods. Who knew Goddard could make being lost in space so funny in The Martian! I think Goddard will do wonders taking on the crime and film noir genre.

Bad Times at the El Royale hits theaters on October 5th, 2018.
