After the critically acclaimed first volume, Action Lab Entertainment has locked in the release date for the highly anticipated return of Spencer & Locke 2. Imagine a comic book put together the existential elements of Calvin and Hobbes with the grittiness of Sin City, and you have the Spencer & Locke series!

Spencer & Locke followsDetective Locke as he continues fights crime. In his never-ending battle, he doesn’t have to do this alone. Locke has the help of his partner and childhood imaginary friend, Spencer, a talking panther.

Here are 5 reasons why we’re excited for Spencer & Locke 2:

5) The Big Bad!

In the aftermath of the first volume, Locke has been suspended by Internal Affairs, While Detective Locke deals with his fallout, a frightening new villain has suddenly arrived, Roach Riley is a scarred former soldier looking to terrorize the city.

4) A Twisted Dynamic!

In Syfy Wire, writer David Pepose describes the confrontation between the protagonist and antagonist, “Locke and Roach are going to cross paths by chance, but their twisted dynamic is going to entangle them from the very beginning. Think of it as the opposite of a meet-cute — this is more like a meet-kill.”

3) A Bigger Threat!

Pepose adds, “I was thinking a lot about the threats that cops can face, and since we already tackled organized crime in our last arc, what would happen if Spencer and Locke were in completely over their heads, facing the actual threat of terrorism?”

2) The Music!

According to Monkeys Fighting Robots, artist Jorge Santiago, Jr. listens to music while creating his drawings. In terms of the characters, Locke is a huge fan of  “Burn It Down” by Linkin Park. And Spencer raises his hands in the air, like he doesn’t care, when he hears “Kids with Guns” by the Gorillaz.

1) The Ringos

Never forget, the first volume of Spencer & Locke earned five 2018 Ringo Award nominations. The nominations include Best Series, Best Writer, Best Cover Artist, Best Colorist, and Best Letterer.

Spencer & Locke 2 arrives in stores on April 24th, 2019.
