WGN America has acquired the international political/crime thriller, Shoot The Messenger, starring Elyse Levesque (Orphan Black) and Lucas Bryant (The Vow). Audiences will find themselves on the edge-of-their seats as our stars uncover a scandalous cover-up that could possibly bring down the government.

Shoot the Messenger follows Daisy Channing (Elyse Levesque), a young reporter trying to balance her messy personal life with a burgeoning professional career.  Things begin to go sideways for Daisy when she witnesses an actual murder. What was supposed to be a gang related crime turns into an interconnected web of criminal and illicit sexual activity. Her investigation will reach into the dark corridors of corporate and political power.

Here are 5 reasons we’re excited for Shoot The Messenger on WGN America:

5) Elyse Levesque

Making a name for herself among sci-fi fans, Elyse Levesque demonstrated her charm and prowess as Chloe Armstrong in the Syfy series Stargate Universe. She then played a witch on the CW’s popular supernatural drama, The Originals. I really believe Levesque will do wonders and amaze viewers in the lead role.

4) The Ensemble Cast!

Lyriq Bent (The Book of Negroes) stars as detective Kevin Lutz. Audiences will recognize Haven actor, Lucas Bryant as Daisy’s sexy co-worker Simon Olenski. Doctor Who fans will follow Alex Kingston anywhere she goes. Because the journalism vibe reminds me of Spotlight, I’m very interested in seeing Kingston’s take as Daisy’s editor, Mary Foster.

3) The Creative Team!

Shoot the Messenger is produced by Jennifer Holness and Victoria Woods for Hungry Eyes Film & Television Inc. in association with CBC Television and ITV Studios Global Entertainment. The eight-episode miniseries is co-created by Jennifer Holness and Sudz Sutherland. As lead director on the series, Sutherland brings in elements of social commentary, crime, and reporting into a single scene.

1) The Best Crime Lineups On WGN!

“WGN America continues to deliver one of the best crime lineups in television,” said Gavin Harvey, President of WGN America to Deadline. “These four new original series build upon our strong slate of compelling programming that offers nonstop mystery, thrills and suspense for the growing number of fans of the crime genre.”

Shoot the Messenger airs on WGN America sometime in 2018.
